Warminster Highbury U13 Reds 5-1 Corsham

Warminster Highbury U13 Reds made the long journey across the county to play Corsham in there next league game. Highbury only had 12 players, with a few injured and a few not feeling well, we knew it would be a tough game especially as Corsham had 16 players.

Highbury got off to a slow start playing uphill, struggling to find momentum and couldn’t retain possession of the ball. Corsham were quickly putting pressure on our defence having about 5 efforts on target but Jack was denying them any chances off scoring by pulling off some great saves. Chris found himself in lots of space out wide and began causing there defence lots of problems with his quick feet and pace, putting some lovely crosses into the box but we couldn’t seem to hit the target. Corsham continued to play the ball around with Harvey working hard and putting in some great tackles in the midfield. Toby was doing well communicating with the defence and putting in some great tackles. Highbury began to play some great football with some link up play from Adam, Alex and Harvey. The ball was then switched to Chris who crossed it in for Adam to head it in the top corner 1-0 to Highbury. Chris then found himself in some more space struck it over the keeper into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Highbury then switched off with a long ball over the top to the centre forward Corsham came rushing through. Jack came out and made a great initial save but the striker managed to nick it to make it 2-1. With 5 minutes to go Corsham began to dominate meaning Jack needing to make another 3 game changing saves. Half time 2-1.

With a positive team talk and a few changes the boys were ready for the second half. Highbury started well from kick off keeping possession through Toby, Jake, Callum and Bailey for the ball then to go wide out to Ethan W who ran from behind to score a cracking goal, once all the players went back to the half way line, the linesmen ruled it offside for some unknown reason. The boys used this as confidence to try and get another goal with shots from Alex, Chris, Adam all being saved by their keeper. Corsham started to take over possession with an attack in which Toby managed to quickly stop using great strength to win the ball back. Ethan W then picked up the ball out wide and drilled a cross along the box for Alex to tape home to make it 3-1. Corsham then pushed harder to find that second goal but couldn’t get past Camron with some clever defending at the back. Highbury then won another corner with Adam scoring his 2nd header of the game 4-1. All the boys continued to attack with several shots from Chris, Ethan k, Harvey and Adam all being saved. Corsham then caught us on the break with Jake putting in a well-timed tackle to win the ball. In the last 5 minutes Adam managed to score another goal to seal off his hatrick. Corsham had one final attack with Jack E not letting anything go past him with a brave save. Final score 5-1.

I was really pleased with the U13s they all gave 100% effort in a tough and close game. Always accepted whatever decisions were given and got on with the game. Joint Man of the Match goes to Jack E for keeping us in the game with some fantastic saves and Camron who went on in a different position and stopped anyone getting past him with some great defending.

Congratulations to the U13 Blacks for a 10-2 win over Westbury in there league game today. Well Done boys.
